What is R2EP?

Run to End Poverty (R2EP) is a team of compassionate runners taking strides to end extreme poverty in Africa. With every kilometer logged and dollar raised, our runners are helping to connect the skills and ambition of our African Partners to real opportunity.

Each R2EP team across Canada is partnered with a development initiative taking place in Africa, where our partner organization Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is working to build local capacity and create positive change.Through this connection, R2EP offers Canadian runners an opportunity to learn more about international development and the impact being made by organizations like EWB.

Since the first run in 2007, Run to End Poverty teams have raised over $105,000 from more than 2,000 donors in support of EWB’s development efforts in Africa. In 2011, Run to End Poverty teams will be running in eight cities across Canada including Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Ottawa, Montreal,  and Toronto.

Local Teams

The Run to End Poverty is a team, not an event. Our local teams participate in major races already taking place in their respective cities, taking advantage of an existing opportunity to promote the Run to End Poverty’s mission with the broader community. To join your local team, click here.

Our innovative Corporate Challenge program provides valuable team-building opportunities for companies in each R2EP City. Corporate Challenge participants get fit and develop relationships with colleagues while helping build opportunities for rural Africans to access clean water, generate an income from small farms, and gain improved access to the services and infrastructure they need to improve their lives.

Training Support

Run to End Poverty team members train together in the weeks and months leading up to race day. Team coaching, training workshops, and weekly group runs help beginners build a strong base and experienced runners improve their abilities and achieve new personal bests.

Global Impact

Each R2EP city team is partnered with a project in an African community where our beneficiary organization, Engineers Without Borders, is working to build local capacity and create positive change. By raising awareness through our fundraising activities and participation in local races, we build support for international development initiatives with real global impact.
